Two personalities. One story.
Forrest is a Maltese. Small, white and elegant, with the air of an aristocratic lapdog. You might expect a temperament to match. But anyone who knows Maltese dogs will tell you that beneath all that pristine white fur lies a rather spirited personality.
Forrest is certainly no exception.
He's funny, theatrical, stubborn and has an opinion on just about everything. He loves being part of the conversation, even when it has absolutely nothing to do with him, and has a particular talent for turning an ordinary walk into a matter of principle.
Francesca, meanwhile, likes order, discipline and things done properly. She's something of a perfectionist, and when something isn't quite where it should be, she finds it rather difficult to pretend she hasn't noticed.
Forrest and Francesca have rather different approaches to life: he embraces chaos with enthusiasm, while she prefers quite the opposite.
And yet, together, they work remarkably well. With a pairing this unlikely, something was bound to come of it sooner or later.
That something is called NANI®.
WHY NANI®?
Three syllables were two too many.
Forrest. A beautiful name. At least until I started calling it across a field to a Maltese who was already halfway to the other side. Not to mention that hardly anyone could remember it. Forest, Forrester… everyone seemed to have their own version.
Then, little by little, I found myself calling him Nani. In Milanese dialect, it's an affectionate way of addressing little ones, especially children. A word I'd known all my life, which came naturally to me because I'd fallen completely in love with that little white whirlwind.
And since even at my most sentimental, there's still a part of me that likes to think practically, I soon appreciated another advantage: Nani was short, easy to say and, at last, everyone could remember it.
So, a name that came straight from the heart. With a few undeniable logistical advantages.
And somehow, Nani stuck.
